We’re getting some good press out there today.  IGN has great things to say about us this month.

“Whereas the Governor might have seemed harsh and unlikeable in previous issues, he becomes a much more sympathetic figure here. The scenes between Chadron and his children bonding over their favorites stories are quite touching and go a long way toward endearing readers to the whole bunch.”

“I’ll be very happy to get back to the proper flow of the story, but I was pleasantly surprised in just how much I enjoyed this interlude. The Unwritten continues to hold me in rapt attention every month, not unlike the children who are so in love with the saga of Tommy Taylor. Just one more chapter before bed, Mr. Carey?”

We’ve got a fantastic review over at MultiversityComics.

“…I say that this is a damn good issue that by the end shows us that it is not a mere respite in the midst of an intense arc. This issue is setting us up for the rest of arc itself.”

And it’s always nice to see someone notice the media pages that take ages to put together.  Those icons icons don’t just make themselves.

The Village Voice praises the series and names us one of 2009 Best Comics and GNs.  The Unwritten earned honors as the only mainstream comic in the bunch, and we’re amongst some other fine works (though I think the inclusion of Craig Yoe’s book Secret Identity is dubious, it’s more a collection of raunchy pin-ups.  Do art books count as comics?).  I do take ever so slight umbrage to this though:

“If Harry Potter is your cup of tea, avoid writer Mike Carey and artist Peter Gross’s The Unwritten

Really truly?  Perhaps there’s a slight sarcastic edge in there, they’re not really warning away the Potter fans.  Our affectionate poking of this (and all) fandoms is done in good humor.  We love our children’s fantasy literature.  True, our little Mingus (née studio cat Narnia) is getting a bit more screen time than poor Hedwig did, but that’s no reason to hold a grudge.

  • Mike and Peter!

Thanks for taking a look at our review at Multiversity Comics. We really love The Unwritten at MC and it’s an honor for you two to even have read our review.

Just wanted to share that we made a post this weekend taking a look at what we think will be the best in comics over the next decade, and The Unwritten was a big winner (or at least we think it will be).

Keep up the great work and prove us right! (Also, if you’re interested in an interview, we’d love to have you!)
