I have been referenced ever so briefly before, so you’re forgiven for not recognizing me.  Mike and Peter seem too busy these days doing something or other with writing and drawing to update, so I am here to bring you posts.  I work with Peter on the art of the book, specifically doing backgrounds, inking, research and training up the interns to know which end of the scanner is the “scanning” end.

The latest issue has hit the stands, number 8 for those of you keeping track (and that should be all of you).  Other people have had previews floating around, but I’m going to spoil you with some art they haven’t shown.  Terribly exciting, isn’t it?  I’m not going to tell you where it’s from because that would spoil the surprise for you when reading the comic.

But, without ruining anything, I can say that Dr. Swann’s dramatic beliefs find more of a foothold here, children are cruel and somewhere in there is a menhir that was too small to print as anything recognizably a menhir.  There’s quite the shift between drawing grizzled, hardened convicts with explicit tattoos to wide-eyed children with magic wands and pointy hats.  But, there’s more fun to be had in peppering the children’s room with fluffy, magical tidbits than drawing cold prison cells with nothing for entertainment but drawing France on the walls and trapping fictional cats with nonfictional fish.

Random tidbits (in case any of you had bets):

- Chadron’s car is based on a Citroën.

- There is a Deux Chevaux somewhere in the book.

- Little Prince reference!

- Cosi’s hat belongs to a child in the McGee family (related to the Gross family by marriage to Peter).

The next issue will be terribly exciting and feature more flying cat.
