The Stranded on Sci-Fi Channel!
I’ve been conspicuous by my absence here for a long, long time, and I want to apologise for that. One reason is that I was at a stage where I was polishing up and sending off a great many pitches relating to new projects – a perfect storm (feh, sorry) of drafting and redrafting that’s disproportionately time-consuming and sucks your entire life into a black hole for weeks on end. Then stops dead. Kind of.
In this case, it stops when it reaches today’s press release from Virgin and Sci-Fi about The Stranded. Basically, it’s been approved for pilot development by NBC/Universal, with me attached as writer for the next stage of the process. All this was working itself out over the last week or so, with the last planks being hammered into place on Sunday afternoon. Yes. I made lawyers work on a Sunday.
It’s all very cool. I love the core premise of The Stranded, and the cast we’ve built up. I really want to carry on telling their story, in as many different formats as I can – including semaphor where appropriate.

Hello Mike.
I loved just finished reading “The Stranded”, and it was very good reading with concept like Sci-Fi meets ‘Heroes’ . I am very excited about the Collaboration that you are having with Sci-Fi channel to make this into series, but what does this mean for “The Stranded” comics? Will you be not be writing them any more?
Personally I’d wish the comics would continue and expand upon the world of Tamree, Drum and the gang, and the world of Sleepers becoming a long running comic book series (Book One did end in sort of Cliffhanger after all, with Prof Zante announcing his invasion of earth)
However, since Virgin Comics is bankrupt and Liquid comics now deals with Virgin Comics’ properties(like John Woo’s 7 Borthers – another comic that I like), what does it lie in future for “The stranded” comics?
Hi James.
I’m afraid the comic series sort of hit the wall. We were hoping that the first mini would take off and launch an ongoing, or at least a suite of minis, but what with Virgin ceasing to trade, that never happened. Liquid could still resurrect the book in some form, but I’m not sure that they’re starting many new projects: I think a lot of what they’re doing is managing existing deals on stuff that they’ve already produced. And because of the nature of the contract, I can’t write Stranded stories for anyone else – well, except for Sci-Fi, of course…
Hi Mike.
Did anything ever happen with this series ?
Love your work, would love to see it on TV.
Oh and the Castor stuff is very cool.
Hi Guy.
No news as yet. In theory it’s still happening, but it’s happening on a timescale similar to that in which ice ages come and go.
